She had to nearly die before she could live again. Can she build a new life on the embers of her old one?
After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Allegra Kenton finds a new direction using her passion for vintage items by renovating a dilapidated mansion she inherited into a dance studio. When she meets Emmett Dennison and begins falling in love, her new life is on track, until a mistake from her past puts everything in jeopardy. Can she hold on to her dreams and Emmett? Emmett Dennison had a plan: the right type of fiancé, the right time to get married, the right career rung, but his plan took a detour when he became a guardian to his autistic brother and his fiancé broke off their engagement. Now his life is all about the day to day until he meets Allegra. She inspires him to dream again, but his fiancé’s betrayal makes it hard for him to trust. Will Allegra make him believe in happy endings? Lead In Post Post heading: The Hollywood Villa I have always been delighted by stories of covert identities and thwarted love. One day a ‘what if scenario’ popped into my head. What if a woman inherited a glamorous villa and an honest man was determined to expose her as a gold-digger, only to find out she was not what she seemed? What if she had a dark secret and had donated her eggs for IVF fertilization and the progeny she was responsible for thought she was her biological mother? And what if the said villa was haunted by its past owner who was determined to guide his heir to a happily ever after? And so Vintage Dreams was born, a story about Emmett who meets Allegra under a feigned motive, only to realise she was not the gold-digger he was envisioning. While Allegra is confronted with the mistakes of her past and has to decide whether she believes she’s worth of a happy ending. And Henry, Allegra’s best friend and former owner of the villa, haunts and protects her. This story combined my favourite tropes of the gothic and haunted villa and I had so much fun researching Allegra’s vintage fashion ensembles, as well as creating the villa inspired by old Hollywood villa’s like the Falcon’s Lair. Excerpt 1: She was being watched. Her instincts were sharp, and without a second thought, she subtly turned her head, her raven hair cascading like a waterfall, to seek the source of her unease. And there he was, on the balcony overhead. Her mysterious night watcher. She'd been aware of his presence for weeks, a lone figure in a sea of revelers, dressed in a suit and tie that marked him as a stark contrast to the casual crowd. He never danced or flirted with the women who approached him. Instead, he remained detached, his gaze locked on her. Allegra had wondered when he would make a move, approach her with a few well-practiced lines. But he hadn't. The possibility of him being a stalker had crossed her mind during the second week, leading her to take precautions when leaving the club. Yet, as far as she could tell, he always left well before her, as if he were searching for the courage to approach her, and, when he couldn't find it, retreated into the night. Tonight, however, was different. Tonight, they would finally speak. She continued dancing, her movements slowing into languorous, seductive motions, her every move an invitation. She seized the moment when she saw him retreat from the balcony, heading for the bar. With a nod from the bartender, she slipped through the service entrance, quickly rounding the corner to stand at the mouth of the alley. She watched as Night Watcher exited the club. Hot Spot was nestled in the heart of downtown, its bright neon lights casting an eerie glow on the bustling sidewalks. Witnesses abounded, and Allegra knew that this risky confrontation needed an audience. Silent as a shadow, she fell in step behind him, her strides lengthening until she was walking beside him in the well-lit street. She wasted no time. 'I thought tonight would be the night you asked me for my number.'
